Formal Headshot Generator
Turn a photo of you in uniform into a formal headshot in front of the U.S. and Civil Air Patrol flags. The tool checks your photo against the standards, places you the same way every time, and matches the lighting to the backdrop. Your photo never leaves your device.

A formal headshot is for a leader bio, a command photo board, a news release, or a profile picture. Start with a good photo: the tool can fix the background and the lighting, but not the uniform or the pose.
- Have someone take your photo from the chest up, at eye level, about 6 feet away.
- Add the photo. The tool finds you, cuts out the background, and places you between the flags.
- Fix anything the standards check flags, or take a new photo.
- Adjust the size, position, and lighting until you blend with the backdrop.
- Download the portrait, or the square for profile pictures.
Your file is named for you and this tool, such as Maj-Jane-Smith_headshot_portrait.jpg.
- Wear a uniform that meets CAPR 39-1, clean and pressed, with current insignia, ribbons, and badges placed correctly. No cover indoors.
- Face the camera with your shoulders square and your head level. Look into the lens with a pleasant, natural expression.
- Show your head and shoulders, down to about the middle of your chest, with space above your head.
- Stand in front of a plain wall, a step or two away from it, so you separate cleanly from the background.
- Use soft, even light from the front, such as a window on a cloudy day. Avoid harsh overhead light and flash glare.
- No sunglasses, hats, or headphones. Glasses you wear every day are fine; tilt them slightly to avoid glare.
- Use a recent photo, straight from the camera, without filters or beauty effects.
